Sigils, Skulls and Sloths: The Art Behind Our Designs
Every design in this shop starts with something from Amigo the Devil's world. Here's a quick tour of what you'll find, and where it comes from.
What is the symbol on almost every design?
That's the sigil: crossed lines, an upside-down cross and a crescent moon. It is Amigo the Devil's mark, and it hides in corners, on slot-machine reels, on a goat's sweater and on a rolling-paper parody. Our Sigil and Sigil Logo designs give it the whole space.
Which songs and albums show up?
- Born Against: the 2021 album, with a sepia portrait and the full tracklist.
- Stronger Than Dead: clasped hands, a noose and an eye, named for the song that closes Everything Is Fine.
- Cannibal Within: a soup can with a masked figure, for the song from Yours Until the War Is Over.
- My Body Is a Dive Bar: a beer-label rosette on the front and the title on the back.
- Small Stone Big River: a park-patch canyon, nodding to the song that opens Born Against.
- Heaven on Fire: a moonscape with a line from the song.
And the animals?
Our designs have a soft spot for strange creatures. You'll find an engraved tiger and sloth (each with a three-eyed twin on the back), a goat mascot, a pile of kittens and a toad playing the banjo.
Why so many jokes?
Because the songs have them too. Gave Up the Ghost, Housefire, Live, Laugh, Love and Cruise Til Ya Lose are for fans who laugh at the dark bits.
